What to Expect During a Pacific Heating & Cooling Precision Tune-Up

When you schedule a maintenance visit with Pacific Heating & Cooling, our certified technician will provide a complete checkup to make sure your system is running safely, efficiently, and reliably. Here’s what you can expect:

A Detailed System Check
  • We ask questions about your home and equipment so we can tailor the tune-up to your system

  • Clean or replace your air filter (standard 1” filter included)

  • Wash washable filters (if present)

  • Confirm your thermostat is working properly and programmed the way you like

  • Make sure the system is starting, cycling, and producing the right temperature

  • Flush drain lines if your system is connected to AC or a heat pump


Safety & Component Inspection
  • For gas furnaces:

    • Clean burners and flame sensor

We purchased a brand‑new AC unit from Pacific Heating and Cooling less than six years ago for over $10,000. A system at that price point should last far longer than this... yet ours is now completely non‑functional.
Last year, the system stopped working entirely. We had a technician from Pacific Heating and Cooling come out, and while he believed he fixed the issue, the AC failed again just two months later. That initial visit alone cost us over $1,500, which made it financially impossible to immediately call them back after the system failed within 2 months.
Yesterday, we finally had them come back and were told there is likely a leak in the AC line. We were quoted $3,500 just to locate the issue, with costs expected to increase from there. Pacific Heating and Cooling states this is not covered under warranty -- despite the fact that the AC lines are covered, untouched, and not damaged by anything we did. This is a clear failure of installation or materials, not "normal wear and tear" or user error.
To make matters worse, after the technician left yesterday, my husband inspected the unit and found exposed wires that were never mentioned. The tech claimed he did a "thorough" inspection yet failed to note something this obvious. When we immediately called Pacific Heating and Cooling about this, we received no call back.
In less than six years, we are left with a completely non‑functioning system, massive repair estimates, poor communication, and a company that refuses to stand behind its work. This is not acceptable for a major HVAC company.
This company is unreliable and does not stand by its installations. Do not use Pacific Heating and Cooling. We have begged them for any kind of discount since this is clearly a fail on them, and they are unwilling to make this right.

UPDATE:
I did hear back from Pacific Heating and Cooling, and they sent another technician out to address the previously missed exposed wiring and to reassess our system.
After this follow-up, we were told the actual repair could cost anywhere from $3,800 to $10,000, depending on what is found during an additional leak test - meaning the final cost is still completely uncertain. It was even suggested, without hesitation, that we consider replacing the entire unit.
To be clear, this system is less than 6 years old, and was originally a $10,000 installation. At no point has there been any accountability or reasonable warranty support offered for what appears to be a system failure well before its expected lifespan.
Given the lack of clarity, high cost uncertainty, and overall experience, we sought a second opinion. Another company, Taylor Heating and Air Conditioning, was extremely surprised by the situation. They are able to perform the leak test and complete the repair for approximately $3,900 with a guarantee, and stated that, with their systems, this type of issue would have been covered under warranty.
We have since decided to move forward with Taylor Heating and Air Conditioning and even enrolled in their membership program based on the level of transparency and confidence they provided.
I will also be filing a report with the Better Business Bureau, as this experience -- from the initial failure to the lack of accountability -- has been extremely disappointing.
I strongly encourage others to do thorough research before choosing a company. I wish I had done more upfront -- it would have saved us significant stress and potentially thousands of dollars. I trusted a big name company that I deeply regret.

The technician service both our AC and furnace. He said it would take 4 hours at the most. He spent 1 hour servicing both units and about 1 hour 15 minutes in his van. Not knowing anything about servicing both units, it seemed like turning a 4 hour maximum service time into 1 hour of actual work left me wondering how it got done so quickly. Previously it took about 2.5 hours of actual work.
