Kent Furnace and AC Installation in 98031

Before and after of a Kent home garage HVAC installation, showing the aging Goodman 80% gas furnace on the left and the new Trane S Series 97% furnace with Trane XV18 variable-speed air conditioner on the right

Pacific Heating & Cooling replaced an aging Goodman gas furnace in a Kent home and added a new Trane variable-speed air conditioner, giving the homeowners dependable year-round comfort, improved efficiency, and whole-home air conditioning for the first time.

Project Overview

  • Location: Kent, WA 98031
  • Home Type: 2,720 sq ft single-family home
  • System Type: High-efficiency gas furnace replacement with new variable-speed air conditioner
  • Completion Date: April 16, 2026
  • Lead Comfort Adviser: Tyler Stout
  • Prior System: Goodman 80% gas furnace, no existing air conditioning
  • New System: Trane S Series 97% AFUE variable-speed furnace paired with a Trane XV18 variable-speed air conditioner

The Challenge

The homeowners in this Kent home were working with an aging gas furnace in the garage and no central cooling of any kind. After more than a decade, the existing Goodman unit was approaching the end of its useful life, and warm Western Washington summers were making comfort harder to manage without a real cooling solution. They wanted a single project that would solve both problems at once: a more efficient, quieter furnace and true whole-home air conditioning.

  • Replace an aging 80% efficiency Goodman gas furnace with a modern high-efficiency system
  • Add central air conditioning to a home that had never had it
  • Upgrade the aging programmable thermostat to a smart, app-controlled model
  • Improve whole-home air filtration without changing the existing return grille layout
  • Keep the outdoor unit tucked cleanly behind the garage for a short, efficient lineset run
  • Complete the project with clear pricing and no surprises after comparing multiple bids

Our Solution

Pacific designed an integrated heating and cooling package built around Trane’s variable-speed platform. The new Trane S Series gas furnace runs at 97% AFUE, a significant jump from the 80% furnace it replaced, and pairs with a Trane XV18 TruComfort variable-speed air conditioner that ramps output up and down gradually instead of cycling hard on and off. The result is steadier temperatures, quieter operation, and lower utility bills across every season. Our team reused the existing flue, added a dedicated electrical circuit for the new outdoor unit, placed the condenser just outside the garage wall for a short lineset run, and installed a Trane Link 360 smart thermostat so the homeowners can manage the system from any phone or tablet. Whole-house duct cleaning and a dryer vent cleaning were included with the installation.

Why This Matters for Kent Homeowners

Kent sits in the heart of South King County, where many homes were built with a gas furnace and no air conditioning because our summers were historically mild. That pattern has shifted. Multi-day heat stretches in July and August are now common, and homeowners who never needed cooling before are now actively looking for it. Adding an AC to an existing furnace system is one of the most practical comfort upgrades available, and pairing it with a high-efficiency furnace at the same time makes the whole investment pay back faster through lower gas and electric bills.

This project is a good example of how much a thoughtful pairing can do. A variable-speed Trane furnace and a variable-speed Trane air conditioner work together to hold a steady temperature throughout the day, rather than swinging warm and cold as a single-stage system cycles on and off. For a 2,720 square foot home in a neighborhood like Kent’s, that steady performance shows up in both comfort and utility bills.

Finally, this family took their time. They gathered several bids before choosing Pacific, and we were the last company they met with. That is exactly how we want the process to work. Homeowners should feel informed, never pressured, and they should be able to see clearly why one proposal is the right fit. Our job is to earn that trust through clear explanations, honest pricing, and work we stand behind.
