Covington Trane Heat Pump Installation & Furnace Upgrade

Before and after Covington heat pump installation: old Rheem furnace replaced with a new Trane furnace and air cleaner

Pacific Heating & Cooling completed a Covington heat pump installation, pairing a new Trane heat pump with a new Trane gas furnace to replace an older furnace in a home that had no air conditioning, so the family now has cooling all summer and dependable heat all winter.

Project Overview

  • Location: Covington, WA 98042
  • Home Type: Two-story single-family home
  • System Type: Hybrid heating and cooling: heat pump paired with a gas furnace
  • Completion Date: September 23, 2026
  • Prior System: Rheem gas furnace in the garage, no central air conditioning
  • New System Capacity: Sized for a two-story, 1,590 sq ft home

The Challenge

This two-story Covington home was heated by an older Rheem gas furnace in the garage. There was no central air conditioning, so the house had no way to cool down on warm days.

The homeowners wanted whole-home cooling without giving up the gas heat they already relied on. During the in-home visit, our comfort adviser also found a few airflow and filtration details worth fixing while the system was open.

  • Add central cooling to a home that only had gas heat
  • Replace the older furnace with a new, matched system
  • Send more balanced airflow to the second floor
  • Remove a disconnected duct run that was no longer doing any work
  • Move from two thin 1-inch filters to longer-lasting filtration
  • Meet code for a garage install, including a protective safety post
  • Use available PSE rebates to lower the upfront cost

Our Solution

Our comfort adviser recommended a hybrid system, sometimes called dual fuel. A new Trane heat pump now handles the cooling and most of the heating. On the coldest nights, the new Trane gas furnace takes over so the house stays warm.

Our crew completed the installation in one day, just two days after the sales visit. They ran a new dedicated electrical circuit for the heat pump, with all required permits included. Inside, they added a damper on the supply duct going upstairs so airflow can be balanced between floors, and capped a disconnected duct at the distribution box.

Because the furnace sits in the garage, the crew installed an indoor bollard, a sturdy post that protects the equipment from a parked car, as required by code. A condensate pump moves water from the new cooling coil out of the garage.

Pacific is a PSE Trade Ally, so we processed both PSE rebates for the homeowners. The family also joined our Peace of Mind Club, which covers the yearly tune-ups that keep the new equipment running well and the warranty in good standing.

Why This Matters for Covington Homeowners

A hybrid heat pump system is a strong fit for Covington homes that already have gas heat. The heat pump adds central cooling and covers most heating efficiently, the gas furnace handles the coldest days, and PSE rebates help offset the cost. The result is year-round comfort with dependable backup heat.

Western Washington’s marine climate brings long stretches of cool, damp weather rather than deep freezes. Those are the conditions where a heat pump does its best work, which is why so many South Sound families are adding one to their existing gas setup.

Based on our service records, Pacific completed more than 550 gas furnace and heat pump installations across Western Washington over the past two years, including eight heat pump system installations in Covington. Every one comes with clear pricing up front and permits handled for you, backed by more than 7,000 Google reviews from local homeowners.
